Aim: To evaluate the possibility of using serum markers of atrophy (pepsinogens - PG I and II) to form high-risk groups for gastric cancer (Operative Link for Gastritis Assessment - OLGA stage III-IV) depending on the etiology of gastritis.

Materials And Methods: A total of 237 (56 men and 181 women) patients were examined. All patients underwent a C-urea breath test, a blood test for GastroPanel (PG I, PG II, gastrin-17, antibodies to immunoglobulin G), a blood test for antibodies to gastric parietal cells.

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are considered to be hotspots for the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). We performed a metagenomic analysis of the raw wastewater, activated sludge and treated wastewater from two large WWTPs responsible for the treatment of urban wastewater in Moscow, Russia. In untreated wastewater, several hundred ARGs that could confer resistance to most commonly used classes of antibiotics were found.

While granulated activated sludge exhibits high productivity, the processes of granule formation are incompletely studied. The processes of granule formation and succession of communities were investigated in a laboratory sequencing batch reactor (SBR) under conditions for enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) using microbiological and molecular techniques. Active consumption of acetate, primarily by the phosphate-accumulating organisms (PAO), commenced at day 150 of cultivation.

Article Synopsis
  • Pancreatic fibrosis (PF) is key in chronic pancreatitis and this study examined its relationship with various factors in pancreatic specimens from 74 patients.
  • Significant differences were found in imaging parameters (like unenhanced pancreas density and contrast enhancement ratio) based on fibrosis grades and inflammation indicators in the tissue.
  • Blood levels of fibronectin and hyaluronic acid showed correlations with different aspects of fibrosis, suggesting that these and imaging parameters could aid in non-invasive diagnosis of PF.

Aim: The assessment of pancreatic resection volume influence on exo- and endocrine pancreatic functions.

Materials And Methods: The resected pancreatic volume influence was assessed in 47 patients: 31 (66%) patients after resections of pancreatic body and tail, and 16 (34%) patients after distal resections. The exocrine pancreatic function was assessed by pancreatic fecal elastase 1 as well as endocrine pancreatic function was assessed by C-peptide level measurement.
