Pregnenolone for the treatment of L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia in Parkinson's disease.

Growing preclinical and clinical evidence highlights neurosteroid pathway imbalances in Parkinson's Disease (PD) and L-DOPA-induced dyskinesias (LIDs). We recently reported that 5α-reductase (5AR) inhibitors dampen dyskinesias in parkinsonian rats; however, unraveling which specific neurosteroid mediates this effect is critical to optimize a targeted therapy. Among the 5AR-related neurosteroids, striatal pregnenolone has been shown to be increased in response to 5AR blockade and decreased after 6-OHDA lesions in the rat PD model.

Combined Antagonism of 5-HT and NMDA Receptors Reduces the Aggression of Monoamine Oxidase a Knockout Mice.

The enzyme monoamine oxidase A (MAOA) catalyzes the degradation of several neurotransmitters, including serotonin. A large body of evidence has shown that genetic MAOA deficiency predisposes humans and mice to aggression and antisocial behavior. We previously documented that the aggression of male MAOA-deficient mice is contributed by serotonin 5-HT and glutamate N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors in the prefrontal cortex (PFC).

Effect of the manufacturing process on Fiore Sardo PDO cheese microstructure by multi-frequency NMR relaxometry.

The quality of Fiore Sardo cheese, a traditional Italian dairy product, was analyzed by means of Multi-frequency Nuclear Magnetic (NMR) relaxometry. Specifically, ten cheese wheels were purchased from different production chains, either industrial (N = 5) or artisanal (N = 5) samples. The former came from large scale productions and the latter were produced by shepherds in small quantities and in very small dairy factories.

Molecular mobility changes after high-temperature, short-time pasteurization: An extended time-domain nuclear magnetic resonance screening of ewe milk.

This study presents an extensive investigation on the effect of pasteurization on raw whole ewe milk. Milk samples have been analyzed, throughout lactation (from February to July), by time-domain nuclear magnetic resonance (TD-NMR), collecting the characteristic TD-NMR relaxation parameters, proton longitudinal and transverse relaxation times (H T and T). Collected data aim at integrating previous NMR works, mainly focusing on dairy model systems (casein and whey proteins solutions and gels, reconstituted skim milk) and cheese, with specific reference to the effect of heat treatments.
