Total hip arthroplasty (THA) via the direct anterior approach (DAA) is a preferred surgical technique due to its benefits, including reduced soft tissue disruption and faster recovery. However, obesity, defined as a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30 kg/m, poses unique challenges in DAA-THA, increasing the risk of complications and technical difficulties. This systematic review aims to assess the clinical and functional outcomes, complication rates, and reoperation rates in obese patients undergoing DAA-THA compared to non-obese patients.

Objective: To map current evidence on short cementless stems in fracture-related THA, focusing on complications, function, and revisions.

Purpose: This study examines the impact of surgical approach on patient-reported outcomes in staged bilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA) performed in same patient using two different approaches: the direct anterior approach (DAA) on one side and posterolateral approach (PL) on other side.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of 41 patients evaluated pain relief and functional outcomes using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) at 7 days, 6 months, and 12 months postoperatively.
Results: The DAA demonstrated significantly better pain relief and functional outcomes during the first 7 days after surgery.
Functionalized plasmonic nanostructure platforms are widely used for developing optical biosensors and SERS assays. In this work, we present a low-cost and scalable surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) system based on an innovative optical transducer comprising gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) embedded in nano-fibrillated bacterial cellulose (BC). The AuNPs@BC composite leverages the unique nanofibrillar architecture of bacterial cellulose, which provides a high surface area, flexibility, and uniform nanoparticle distribution, enabling the formation of numerous electromagnetic "hot spots".

Here, we present a collection of three datasets generated between 2006 and 2019 by a monitoring programme on marine megafauna bycatch in one of the main Italian fisheries, the northern central Adriatic midwater pair trawl fishery. The three datasets consist of: (i) monitored fishing effort; (ii) bycatch and biological data of dolphins, sea turtles and elasmobranchs; (iii) and dolphin sightings.
