Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the combination of cefazolin or a second-generation cephalosporin plus metronidazole is associated with a reduced risk of surgical site infection in women undergoing hysterectomy for gynecologic cancer compared to using cefazolin or a second-generation cephalosporin alone.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent hysterectomy at a single institution between January 2020 and June 2022. The primary outcome was surgical site infection.
Background: There are no optimised patient blood management (PBM) protocols for brain tumor resection (BTR). The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of packed red cells (PRCs) units reserved with the prevalence of transfusion during BTR and analyse preoperative anemia.
Materials And Methods: Prospective observational multicentre study for adult patients who underwent elective BTR.

The global oversupply of crude glycerol, a byproduct of biodiesel production, needs innovative strategies for its sustainable utilization. In this study we isolated and characterized oleaginous yeast strains from fruit surfaces in the Brazilian Cerrado biome, a biodiversity hotspot, to assess their potential for converting crude glycerol into microbial lipids suitable for biodiesel. From 150 fruits, 45 yeast strains were isolated, with six identified as oleaginous (intracellular lipids > 20% dry biomass).

In this work, mandarin peel-derived biocarbons synthesized by fast pyrolysis are tested as support materials for PtPd nanoparticles for the electrochemical oxidation of glycerol in an alkaline electrolyte. The biocarbons, synthesized at 300 °C (mandarin peel-derived biocarbons (BCM)-300) and 500 °C (BCM-500), present good electronic conductivities and adequate surface properties. Bimetallic PtPd nanoparticles with average sizes between 3.
