The authors present treatment of patients with spinal injury complicated by extensive multiple pressure sores. A comprehensive preoperative management was followed by staged surgical treatment. Advisability of deep bedsore closure with full-layer flaps and staged interventions was justified.

Epilepsy is one of the most frequently diagnosed neurological diseases, but the neurobiological basis of the disease remains poorly understood. Immunophenotyping CBA mice brain (NeuN and caspase-8) in parallel with hippocampal neurons' functional status and survival rate assessment during acute epileptic PTZ-induced seizures is of particular interest. The aims of this study were to investigate the involvement of NeuN and caspase-8 in cell cycle regulation and the death of hippocampal neurons during PTZ-induced seizures in mice and to assess the therapeutic efficacy of Myricetin in the aforementioned experimental settings.

Exploiting acid-base indicators as molecular probes is one of the most popular methods for determining the surface electrostatic potential Ψ in hydrophilic colloids like micellar surfactant solutions and related systems. Specifically, the indicator's apparent acidity constant index is measured in the colloid solution of interest and, as a rule, in a nonionic surfactant solution; the difference between the two is proportional to Ψ. Despite the widespread use of this approach, a major problem remains unresolved, namely, the dissimilarity of Ψ values obtained with different indicators for the same system.

Surface electrostatic potential Ψ is a key characteristic of colloid particles. Since the surface of the particles adsorbs various compounds and facilitates chemical reactions between them, Ψ largely affects the properties of adsorbed reactants and governs the flow of chemical reactions occurring between them. One of the most popular methods for estimating Ψ in hydrophilic colloids, such as micellar surfactant solutions and related systems, is the application of molecular probes, predominantly acid-base indicator dyes.

Objects illusorily distort our perception of space, as indexed by perceived distances between two reference points placed within an object compared with the perceived distances between two dots placed in a ground region. This paper examines several novel aspects of such distortions across three experiments that employed a staircase procedure to determine the point of subjective equivalence between dot distances for one pair of dots within or near an object, compared to dots that were placed on a ground region. We replicate and expand upon prior findings that showed that dots within an object's boundaries are perceived as further apart than they are - an expansion effect.
