Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is characterized by unexplained left ventricular hypertrophy and is classically caused by pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants (P/LP) in genes encoding sarcomere proteins. Not all subclinical variant carriers will manifest clinically overt disease because penetrance (proportion of sarcomere or sarcomere-related P/LP variant carriers who develop disease) is variable, age dependent, and not reliably predicted.
Methods: A systematic search of the literature was performed.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a leading cause of death worldwide. Current clinical imaging modalities provide resolution adequate for diagnosis but are unable to provide detail of structural changes in the heart, across length-scales, necessary for understanding underlying pathophysiology of disease. Hierarchical Phase-Contrast Tomography (HiP-CT), using new (4) generation synchrotron sources, potentially overcomes this limitation, allowing micron resolution imaging of intact adult organs with unprecedented detail.

We measured carotid femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV) in a group of underweight young women with AN at baseline and weekly as they were refed and gained weight. PWV decreased over time and was negatively associated with increasing BMI and calorific meal content suggesting potential positive cardiovascular benefits for refeeding and weight gain in AN and supports current consensus for the importance of weight gain in underweight young women with AN.

This review highlights the links between psychological stress and the neurocircuitry of cardiac-brain interactions leading to arrhythmias. The role of efferent and afferent connections in the heart-brain axis is considered, with the mechanisms by which emotional responses promote arrhythmias illustrated by inherited cardiac conditions. Novel therapeutic targets for intervention in the autonomic nervous system are considered.

Objectives: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) are autoimmune vasculitides associated with antineutrophil cytoplasm antibodies that target proteinase 3 (PR3) or myeloperoxidase (MPO) found within neutrophils and monocytes. Granulomas are exclusively found in GPA and form around multinucleated giant cells (MGCs), at sites of microabscesses, containing apoptotic and necrotic neutrophils. Since patients with GPA have augmented neutrophil PR3 expression, and PR3-expressing apoptotic cells frustrate macrophage phagocytosis and cellular clearance, we investigated the role of PR3 in stimulating giant cell and granuloma formation.

Cardiometabolic diseases contribute more to global morbidity and mortality than any other group of disorders. Polygenic risk scores (PRSs), the weighted summation of individually small-effect genetic variants, represent an advance in our ability to predict the development and complications of cardiometabolic diseases. This article reviews the evidence supporting the use of PRS in seven common cardiometabolic diseases: coronary artery disease (CAD), stroke, hypertension, heart failure and cardiomyopathies, obesity, atrial fibrillation (AF), and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Background: There is growing concern about the long-term cardiovascular health of patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).
