Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic represented a global public health problem with devastating consequences that have challenged conventional medical treatments. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), based on a spectrum of modalities and dialysis membranes, can modify cytokine storms, and improve the clearance of inflammatory factors. As severe COVID-19 can lead to acute kidney injury (AKI) requiring RRT, most patients require more than one extracorporeal organ support at this point.

Breast Metastasis From Cutaneous Melanoma: Beyond the Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma.

Breast metastases of extramammary origin are an extremely rare entity. Solid organ metastases to the breast include malignant melanoma, epithelial carcinoma (adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma of the lung and gastrointestinal tract), and sarcoma. Objective: Parenteral nutrition represents a therapeutic option for patients with type 3 intestinal failure. If used exclusively, parenteral nutrition has to be complete to provide all essential nutrients. The aim was to assess the availability of parenteral nutrition in all parts of the world, to better comprehend the global situation, and to prepare an action plan to increase access to parenteral nutrition.

Ileo-Ileal Intussusception Caused by a Meckel's Diverticulum With Ectopic Pancreatic Tissue: A Case Report.

A Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is an embryonic remnant of the omphalomesenteric duct. Although most MDs are usually asymptomatic, pediatric patients tend to present serious complications more frequently (4-25% of cases), mainly in digestive tract bleeding, intestinal obstruction, and perforation, which have a high potential to compromise the patient's life. An ectopic pancreas (EP) is pancreatic tissue found outside the pancreas, usually in the stomach, duodenum, and jejunum.

Primary Peritoneal Serous Cancer: A Case Report of a Tumor in the Rectovaginal Septum.

Peritoneal cancer is the invasion by malignant cells of serous membrane that lines the abdominal cavity, the viscera, and the coelom of the amniotes. Histologically, it is indistinguishable from ovarian counterpart, although in the former, it commonly involves the ovary only superficially, or it may totally lack an ovarian component, but with extensive involvement of the peritoneum, calcified perihepatic peritoneal nodules, or involvement of the omentum, in most cases. The current study describes the case of a 54-year-old female patient referring a history of colitis and dairy intolerance.

Background: Several polymorphisms had been associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke, but results are inconclusive. The aim of this study was to examine the association between AGTR1 A1166C and TSP-1 N700S polymorphisms and ischemic stroke in a young Mexican population.

Methods: In a case-control study, 250 patients ≤ 45 years of age with ischemic stroke and 250 controls matched by age and gender were included.

We used data from the Mexican Teachers' Cohort (MTC) to estimate the association between the EAT-Lancet healthy reference diet (EAT-HRD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) incidence. We included 74,671 women aged ≥25 years, free of T2D at baseline.

Monkeypox and its broad clinical spectrum in immunocompromised patients: Two case reports.

Monkeypox is the latest reemerging zoonosis worldwide. Anyone is susceptible to contracting this infection; however, the clinical presentation may be atypical in a particularly vulnerable group that identifies as men who have sex with men. Herein, we present two cases of patients diagnosed with monkeypox infection, both of whom were also co-infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and exhibited different degrees of immunosuppression.

A Long-Term Extension Study of Bevacizumab in Patients With Solid Tumors.

Background: Bevacizumab has been studied in numerous clinical trials in multiple types of cancer; however, patients may receive bevacizumab over an extended period of time. This study assessed the long-term safety and tolerability of bevacizumab among patients with solid tumors.

Materials And Methods: Patients enrolled in a Roche/Genentech-sponsored trial who had derived benefit from bevacizumab therapy as monotherapy or in combination with anticancer drugs were eligible for continuation of bevacizumab in this long-term extension (LTE) study.

Microsurgical anatomy of the cranial nerve-centric triangles of the posterior cranial base: cadaveric and radiological anatomical study.

Tumors in the posterior fossa can be situated either dorsal and lateral, ventral and medial, or occupying both regions in relation to the cranial nerves, with the latter position being especially challenging. In an effort to organize neurovascular complexes contained within, anatomically based triangles have been proposed to serve as guiding landmarks for locating critical neurovascular structures. The objectives of this study were to: (1) provide a review of historical anatomically based vascular-centric triangles of the posterior fossa based on respective neurovascular complexes; (2) introduce a more organized alternative system of triangles with the conceptualization of a projection system from superficial to deep; and (3) propose and describe two new triangles of the posterior fossa: Petrous-Acousticofacial and Acousticofacial-Trigeminal.

Incobotulinum toxin type A for treatment of chronic myofascial pain.

Purpose: This study assessed the effectiveness of incobotulinum toxin type A (IBTx) for chronic myofascial pain affecting the masseter and temporal muscles.

Methods: Twenty two patients who received a diagnosis of chronic masseter and temporalis myofascial pain were evaluated by using a visual analog pain scale (VAS), digital pressure algometry, and the SF-36 Health Survey at baseline (T0), before IBTx injection. Patients were again evaluated at 2 months (T1) and 7 months (T2) after IBTx injection.

Establishing consensus on the perioperative management of cholecystectomy in public hospitals: a Delphi study with an expert panel in Mexico.

Background: Several guidelines have put forward recommendations about the perioperative process of cholecystectomy. Despite the recommendations, controversy remains concerning several topics, especially in low- and middle-income countries. The aim of this study was to develop uniform recommendations for perioperative practices in cholecystectomy in Mexico to standardize this process and save public health system resources.

Predictive polymorphisms for breast cancer in postmenopausal Mexican women.

Context: Several factors contribute to the increase in breast cancer (BC) incidence, such as lifetime exposure to estrogen, early menarche and older ages at first birth, menopause, and the increased prevalence of postmenopausal obesity. In fact, there is an association between an increased BC risk and elevated estrogen levels, which may be involved in carcinogenesis via the estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) encoded by the ESR1 gene. Interestingly, there is an antagonistic relationship between ERα and the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) in BC cells.
