Interaction of γ-alumina with water are important in controlling its structure and catalytic properties. We apply solid-state multinuclear NMR spectroscopy to investigate this interaction by monitoring H and O spectra in real-time. Surface-selective detection is made possible by adsorbing O-enriched water on γ-alumina nanorods. Structural evolution on the surface was selectively probed by H/O double resonance NMR and Al NMR at ultrahigh 35.2 T magnetic field. Formation of hydroxyl species on the surface of nanorods is rapid upon the exposure of water, which involves low coordinated aluminum ions with doubly bridging and isolated hydroxyl species being generated first. Fast exchange occurs between oxygen atoms in the water molecules and bare surface sites, indicating high reactivity of these oxygen species. These results provide new insights into the structure and dynamics on the surface of γ-alumina and the methods applied here can be extended to study the interaction of other oxides with water.

Myocardial injury constitutes a life-threatening complication of sepsis, driven by synergistic oxidative-inflammatory pathology involving dysregulated production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), reactive nitrogen species (RNS), and proinflammatory cytokines. This pathophysiological cascade remarkably elevates morbidity and mortality rates in septic patients, emerging as a key contributor to poor clinical outcomes. Despite its clinical significance, no clinically validated therapeutics currently exist for managing septic cardiomyopathy.

Azo dyes, prevalent in various industries, including textile dyeing, food, and cosmetics, pose significant environmental and health risks due to their chemical stability and toxicity. This study introduces the synthesis and application of a copper hydrogen-π-bonded benzoate framework (Cu-HBF) and its derived marigold flower-like copper oxide (MFL-CuO) in a synergetic adsorption-photocatalytic process for efficiently removing cationic azo dyes from water, specifically crystal violet (CV), methylene blue (MB), and rhodamine B (RhB). The Cu-HBF, previously available only in single crystal form, is prepared here as a crystalline powder for the first time, using a low-cost and facile procedure, allowing its application as an adsorbent and also serving as a precursor for synthesizing well-structured copper oxide (MFL-CuO).

Understanding the evaporation mechanism of liquid ethanol and ethanol-water binary mixtures is important for numerous scientific and industrial processes. The amount of water in liquid water-ethanol mixtures can significantly affect how quickly ethanol molecules evaporate. Here, we study the mechanism and rate of evaporation of ethanol from pure liquid ethanol and ethanol/water binary mixtures through both unbiased molecular dynamics simulations and biased simulations using the umbrella sampling method.
