Article Abstract

A reproducible formation of strongly bent crystals was accomplished by structurally restraining macrocyclic π-conjugated molecules. The model π-units consist of two 9,10-bis(2-thienylethynyl)anthracenes with a strong propensity for stacking, which are connected in a macrocyclic fashion two alkylene linkers. The correlation between the crystalline morphology and the macrocyclic structures restrained by a variety of flexible alkylene linker combinations was systematically studied. Bent crystals were obtained only with specific alkylene linkers of appropriate chain length. The alkylene linkers can adopt different conformations in the crystal packing, so as to fill voids within the macrocycle. The ability to form several similar molecular structures with different alkylene conformations gives rise to contaminations of different crystalline phases within a single crystal, and it is these phase contaminations which are responsible for the bending of the crystals.

The results of an investigation of an impact of the structure of recently synthesized bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide mono- and dicationic ionic liquids on their properties and behavior as lubricants for slippery liquid infused superhydrophobic coatings are presented for a wide temperature range. In this study, a new approach based on monitoring the surface tension of a liquid sessile droplet on top of a coating was exploited for the analysis of the evolution of the coating properties in prolonged contact with the liquid. It was found that the continuous contact with water flow results in slippery property degradation according to two different scenarios.

This article addresses the impact of metal-ligand redox cooperativity on the functionalisation of coordinated ligands. It demonstrates the structure-reactivity correlation of bis(aldimine) derived bis-bidentate L (Py-CHN-(CH)-NCH-Py, with = 2 (L1), 3 (L2), 4 (L3)) as a function of the conformation (/) of its alkylene linker as well as the overall structural form (/) of (acac)Ru(μ-L)Ru(acac) complex moieties (1-5) possessing an electron-rich acetylacetonate (acac) co-ligand. A systematic variation of the bridging alkylene unit of L in Ru/Ru-derived 1-5 led to the following reactivity/redox events, which were validated through structural, spectroscopic, electrochemical and theoretical evaluations: (i) Cyclisation of the ethylene linked ( conformation) bis-aldimine unit of L1 C-C coupling yielded pyrazine bridged (acac)Ru(μ-L1')Ru(acac), 1a, while the corresponding -form (ethylene linker) of the metal-bound L1 in 2 ((acac)Ru(μ-L1)Ru(acac)) led to oxygenation at the ligand backbone (bis-aldimine (L) → bis(carboxamido) (L'')) O activation to generate RuRu-derived (acac)Ru(μ-L1'')Ru(acac) (2a).

Diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-based conjugated copolymers are important organic semiconductors for applications in high-efficiency organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). However, the direct application of these polymers with rigid backbones in stretchable devices has limitations. In this study, we designed and synthesized three kinds of DPPBT-based copolymers, DPPBT-A1, DPPBT-A3, and DPPBT-A5, which have amide-coupled alkylene conjugation breakers capable of hydrogen bonding.

The oncogenic BRAFV600E kinase leads to abnormal activation of the MAPK signaling pathway and thus, uncontrolled cellular proliferation and cancer development. Based on our previous virtual screening studies which issued 2-acetamido-1,3 benzothiazole-6-carboxamide scaffold as active pharmacophore displaying selectivity against the mutated BRAF, eleven new substituted benzothiazole derivatives were designed and synthesized by coupling of 2-acetamidobenzo[d]thiazole-6-carboxylic acid with the appropriate amines in an effort to provide even more efficient inhibitors and tackle drug resistance often developed during cancer treatment. All derived compounds bore the benzothiazole scaffold substituted at position-2 by an acetamido moiety and at position-6 by a carboxamide functionality, the NH moiety of which was further linked through an alkylene linker to a sulfonamido (or amino) aryl (or alkyl) functionality or a phenylene linker to a sulfonamido aromatic (or non-aromatic) terminal pharmacophore in the order -C H -NHSO -R or reversely -C H -SO N(H)-R.

Article Synopsis
  • Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) receptor sensors have enhanced our understanding of GPCR ligand binding, particularly with muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs) and their interaction with dual-steric ligands.
  • The study reports the synthesis of two series of bitopic ligands derived from the orthosteric agonist Xanomeline and an allosteric modulator, with varying alkylene chain lengths affecting receptor activation.
  • The research reveals distinct activation patterns in different mAChR subtypes, suggesting that the linker length in these hybrids influences receptor activation and offers new insights into ligand-receptor interactions.
