Article Abstract

We report here a dehydropeptidase-deficient murine model of tuberculosis (TB) infection that is able to partially uncover the efficacy of marketed broad-spectrum β-lactam antibiotics alone and in combination. Reductions of up to 2 log CFU in the lungs of TB-infected mice after 8 days of treatment compared to untreated controls were obtained at blood drug concentrations and time above the MIC (T>MIC) below clinically achievable levels in humans. These findings provide evidence supporting the potential of β-lactams as safe and mycobactericidal components of new combination regimens against TB with or without resistance to currently used drugs.

A series of molecular logic gates with multiple biocomputing capabilities have been successfully fabricated by using four antibiotic residues [tetracycline (TET), chloramphenicol (CHL), kanamycin (KAN), and streptomycin (STR)] as inputs. The lateral flow strip biosensor was utilized to realize the visual and portable sensing of logic events. Four basic logic gates (OR, AND, XOR, and INHIBIT) and three cascade logic circuits (OR-INHIBIT-AND, 3AND-OR, and XOR-INHIBIT-OR-AND) were constructed.

Background: The emergence of drug-resistant pathogens has stimulated the need for the development of new antimicrobial agents. Epigenetic modulation by suppressing epigenetic inhibitors, such as 5-azacytidine (5-aza), has been shown to activate silent biosynthetic gene clusters within a fungus and causes the production of novel secondary metabolites. This research examined this epigenetic modification strategy in the poorly studied filamentous fungus, Ceratorhiza hydrophila, which may help induce the additional production of bioactive compounds.

The impact of bleomycin test doses on the development of acute hypersensitivity reactions.

Support Care Cancer

September 2025

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Department of Pharmacy, Memphis, TN, USA.

Purpose: Hypersensitivity reactions are a side effect of bleomycin. Test doses have been utilized to attempt to predict patients who would develop these reactions. Despite this, there is scant data available on whether these test doses actually predict the development of reactions.

Unlabelled: The study aimed to evaluate fecal calprotectin levels as indicators of intestinal inflammation in children with cystic fibrosis while examining their relationship with clinical signs, genetic mutations, and therapeutic approaches. Due to the limited number of patients with certain mutation types and the heterogeneity of mutations, patients were grouped accordingly for the analysis of fecal calprotectin levels, in relation to genetic mutation categories. This single-centre study at Istanbul Medical Faculty included 45 cystic fibrosis patients (19 girls, 26 boys) aged 1-18 years and 45 age- and sex-matched healthy controls.

This case report details the management of a patient with cirrhosis who developed chylous pleural and peritoneal effusions. The patient, with a 28-year history of untreated hepatitis B, presented with dyspnea and cough after traveling to a high-altitude area. Imaging and laboratory tests confirmed the presence of chylous effusions.
