Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), caused by the commensal pathobiont affects >75% of women, marring quality of life and incurring significant health costs. Estrogen (E2) activity is tightly linked to VVC susceptibility, and preclinical models employ E2 to establish vaginal colonization. Unlike most forms of candidiasis, VVC is not considered to be a condition of immune compromise.

Background: Per-oral endoscopic myotomy has been used for a diagnosis of achalasia and non-achalasia motility disorders. Little is known about the manometric function of the esophageal body and LES after POEM. This study focuses on examination of the changes before and after POEM in the treatment of all 3 achalasia types as well as esophagogastric junction outflow obstruction and jackhammer esophagus.

Confocal microscopy is a standard modality for volumetric imaging of biological samples due to its high spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). However, the slow point-by-point scanning process limits its image acquisition speed. Multifocal illumination allows for faster acquisition but compromises spatial resolution.
