Ancient genomic studies have extensively explored human-microbial interactions, yet research on non-human animals remains limited. In this study, we analyzed ancient microbial DNA from 483 mammoth remains spanning over 1 million years, including 440 newly sequenced and unpublished samples from a 1.1-million-year-old steppe mammoth.

Background: Psychological distress has been linked with later cognitive impairment and dementia, although the nature of the association remains unclear. Using a multi-cohort approach, we examined longitudinal associations of psychological distress with subsequent cognition and dementia, testing whether findings varied by age of assessment, severity, and persistence of psychological distress.

Methods: We used five longitudinal studies: Caerphilly Prospective Study, English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, National Child Development Study, National Survey of Health and Development, and Whitehall II.

Introduction: The study examined the relationship between trust of researchers in research naïve participants, including those at higher risk, and interest in Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD) biomarker research participation.

Methods: A cohort of 399 community-dwelling older adults completed a survey about their trust of researchers and interest in participating in ADRD biomarker research.

Results: After controlling for sociodemographics and knowledge of ADRD, higher trust of researchers was associated with lower levels of hesitancy to participate in ADRD biomarker and neuroimaging studies ( < 0.

Plastic pollution requires urgent global action, including continued Global Plastics Treaty negotiations. A systems change approach is essential, with growing momentum for a plastics circular economy that emphasizes recycling and bio-based plastics derived from vegetable and algae oils. Focusing on downstream solutions and alternative materials presents three challenges: (1) New materials introduce complexity that complicate waste sorting and management; (2) the potential implications of bio-based plastics not reducing overall demand on single-use packaging consumption; and (3) the lost art of repairing plastic and non-plastic products such as clothing, or electronic devices, which exacerbates waste generation.
