Cell Proliferation, DNA Damage, and Apoptosis in Oral Leukoplakia and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Young Patients: A Comparative Immunohistochemical Study.

Purpose: To evaluate the role of oxidative DNA damage, cell proliferation, and apoptosis in oral leukoplakia (OL) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in patients aged 40 years or younger.

Methods: Sixty-four OL, twenty-eight OSCC and ten normal oral mucosa (NOM) were subjected to immunohistochemistry evaluation of 8-OhDG, Ki-67, Bax, and Bcl-2 using formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections. For the analysis of immunostaining, the immunoreactive score was used for the 8-OhDG, Bax, and Bcl-2 biomarkers, while the labeling index was calculated for Ki-67 quantification.

Aneurysmal bone cysts in gnathic bones: clinicopathological profile through a multicenter study and literature review.

Objective: To analyze the clinicopathological profile of aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) in gnathic bones in a Brazilian population through a multicenter study and literature review.

Objectives: Sjögren disease (SD) is a chronic autoimmune disorder that primarily affects the exocrine glands, often resulting in significant oral health complications, such as dental caries and periodontal disease. Tooth loss, a potential consequence of these conditions, has not yet been conclusively associated to SD. This systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression aimed to determine whether individuals with SD exhibit higher tooth loss compared to healthy controls.

Psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire.

This study aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ) which assesses the satisfaction of adolescents with orthodontic treatment. The PSQ is a 58-item self-report instrument presenting six subscales (doctor-patient relationship, situational aspects, dentofacial improvement, psychosocial improvement, dental function, and a residual category). The psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the PSQ (B-PSQ) were assessed in a cross-sectional study with 111 adolescents between 11-18 years who had undergone orthodontic treatment.

Preventive maintenance in pediatric dentistry is essential for monitoring oral health and promoting healthy habits. This study aimed to evaluate how the frequency of follow-up appointments, as well as sex- and age-related differences, impact the probability of referral for curative treatment among pediatric dentistry patients at a Brazilian dental school. This retrospective longitudinal study included dental records of patients who had their first appointment between the second half of 2013 and the second half of 2019, completed treatment, and returned for at least one check-up visit.

Intraneural Pseudoperineuriomatous Proliferations and Traumatic Neuromas: A Retrospective Multicenter Study of Clinicopathological Characteristics.

Background And Purpose: Described in 2013, intraneural pseudoperineuriomatous proliferations (IPP) present perineurial cells concentrically surrounding the axon-Schwann cell complexes, forming pseudo-onion bulbs. Different from intraneural perineuriomas, rare neoplasms with differentiation of perineural cells, IPP are reactive, associated with fibrosis, and frequently diagnosed histologically as traumatic neuroma (TN). The aim of this study was to characterize IPP by exploring its clinicopathological features and differentiating it from the main neural lesions that are part of the histopathological differential diagnosis through a retrospective study in six Brazilian Oral Pathology laboratories.

Bone mineral density in patients using aromatase inhibitors: a clinical, nutritional, and quality of life assessment.

The use of aromatase inhibitors (AIs) leads to an imbalance in bone remodeling and can cause osteoporosis. This study aimed to identify clinical, periodontal, nutritional, and biochemical determinants of bone mineral density (BMD) changes in patients using AIs. The sample consisted of 40 women using AIs and 32 controls.

Dental Caries of Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess and compare the prevalence of dental caries in children and adolescents with and without ASD and identify associated factors. Following the PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted across multiple databases, yielding 2,103 studies, from which 25 met inclusion criteria. The primary outcome measure was caries prevalence, analyzed through clinical assessments.

An association between bruxism and musculoskeletal disorders, such as neck pain, has been established. This study investigated the association of possible sleep bruxism (PSB) activities, including grinding, bracing, and thrusting, with smartphone use, smartphone-induced neck pain, and sleep features. This cross-sectional study involved 403 Brazilian adolescents aged 11 to 19 years.

Adverse Reactions to Cosmetic Fillers in the Oral and Maxillofacial Region: Clinico-Pathological, Histochemical, and Immunohistochemical Characterization.

Background: Cosmetic injections are increasing, as their complications, which can be misdiagnosed as neoplastic lesions. This study aimed to detail clinical, pathological, histochemical, and immunohistochemical features of adverse reactions to cosmetic fillers in the oral and maxillofacial region.

Objective: To describe the characteristics and outcomes of a cohort of patients with oral vascular anomalies (OVA) treated with sclerotherapy using 5% ethanolamine oleate at a dosage of 0.1 mL per 10 mm of lesion size.

Study Design: Sixty-seven patients were selected from a review of 300 medical records of individuals who had been diagnosed with OVA.

However, in elastosis-related diseases such as actinic cheilitis (AC) and lower lip squamous cell carcinoma (LLSCC), this interaction remains unknown.
