Background: The primary aim of this study was to demonstrate the benefits of topical human platelet exosome extract (HPE) (plated) hair serum for improving hair and scalp health in participants with self-perceived thinning hair.
Methods: This single-center, placebo-controlled, double-blind study enrolled 39 healthy men and women 18-65 years of age with self-perceived thinning hair. Participants applied either HPE for 9 months or a topical placebo for 6 months with the option to cross over to HPE at 6 months for an additional 3 months.
Introduction: During nipple-sparing mastectomy with direct-to-implant based breast reconstruction, if the size of the chosen implant is smaller than the mastectomy specimen, a volumetric mismatch occurs creating dead space. This study evaluates the effect of volumetric mismatch between chosen implant size and mastectomy weight on postoperative complications after breast reconstruction.
Methods: A multicenter retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients undergoing nipple-sparing mastectomy with direct-to-implant based breast reconstruction.

Background: This study evaluated the sensory and breast pain outcomes in inferior versus superomedial pedicle breast reduction.
Methods: Twenty patients undergoing the inferior pedicle technique were matched to 20 patients undergoing the superomedial pedicle technique based on age, BMI, and resection weight. Patients were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months.

Background: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is the highest academic degree awarded by universities in most fields of study. In surgery, it is thought to provide surgeons with skills to conduct high-quality research and advance academically. However, this presumed effect has not been assessed among academic plastic surgeons (APSs) and plastic surgery residents (PSRs).

Previous meta-analyses comparing progressive tension suturing (PTS) to drainage (D) in abdominoplasty have been methodologically weak and small in sample size. In this study we aimed to conduct the first robust systematic review comparing PTS and D outcomes in abdominoplasty.

The novel poloxamer wash, absorption, mesh filtration system (PWAS) uses proprietary technology to stabilize and concentrate lipoaspirate. Its use in low-volume fat grafting has not been reported.

Objectives: In this study we aimed to determine whether micro-coring can shorten the philtrum and improve perioral skin quality.
Background: Emsculpt Neo (EmSculpt NEO Device, BTL Industries, Inc.) is a FDA-cleared noninvasive body contouring treatment for increasing muscle tone and/or reducing fat. The device uses high-intensity electromagnetic energy to stimulate muscle contractions and to build muscle mass (Emsculpt) or a combination of electromagnetic energy with radiofrequency (Emsculpt NEO) to produce a synergistic effect of building muscle mass and reducing fat.

This raises concerns due to potential opioid side effects and overprescription. Liposomal bupivacaine offers a promising alternative, but its efficacy in rhinoplasty remains under-investigated.

The complex three-dimensional (3D) anatomy in facial allotransplantation creates a unique challenge for surgical reconstruction. Evolution of virtual surgical planning (VSP) through computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing has advanced reconstructive outcomes for many craniomaxillofacial indications. Surgeons use VSP, 3D models, and surgical guides to analyze and to trial surgical approaches even prior to entering the operating room.

Advances in computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing software have improved translational applications of virtual surgical planning (VSP) in craniomaxillofacial surgery, allowing for precise and accurate fabrication of cutting guides, stereolithographic models, and custom implants. High-resolution computed tomography (CT) imaging has traditionally been the gold standard imaging modality for VSP in craniomaxillofacial surgery but delivers ionizing radiation. Black bone magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reduces the risks related to radiation exposure and has comparable functionality when compared with CT for VSP.

Facial transplantation has the advantage of replacing defective or absent structures with anatomically identical tissues. Facial transplantation may provide functional, esthetic, and psychosocial benefits, but must be weighed against risks such as lifelong immunosuppression.

The complex three-dimensional (3D) anatomy of the craniomaxillofacial skeleton creates a challenge for surgical reconstruction. Advances in virtual surgical planning (VSP) have enhanced reconstructive outcomes in craniomaxillofacial aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. This technology has been especially useful in spatially complex cases due to the ability to visualize and manipulate 3D configurations of the cranium through virtual surgery, printing of stereolithographic models, fabrication of cutting and positioning guides, creation of prefabricated hardware, and refinements of custom implants.

The application of autologous fat grafting in reconstructive surgery is commonly used to improve functional form. This review aims to provide an overview of the scientific evidence on the biology of adipose tissue, the role of adipose-derived stem cells, and the indications of adipose tissue grafting in peripheral nerve surgery. Adipose tissue is easily accessible through the lower abdomen and inner thighs.

Surgical specialties in particular have had to make major adjustments because of the cancellation of nonemergent surgeries. Aesthetic surgery fellowships are uniquely affected because of the high number of elective cases and the length of the fellowship.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAdipose-derived stem cell therapy offers plastic surgeons a novel treatment alternative for conditions with few therapeutic options. Adipose-derived stem cells are a promising treatment because of their broad differentiation potential, capacity for self-renewal, and ease of isolation. Over the past decade, plastic surgeons have attempted to harness adipose-derived stem cells' unique cellular characteristics to improve the survival of traditional fat grafting procedures, a process known as cell-assisted lipotransfer.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to summarize the available evidence on the techniques and surgical outcomes of high-definition lipoplasty (HDL) in male patients.
Introduction: Delayed wound healing and ulceration in radiated tissue is a surgical challenge. Autologous fat grafting can reverse skin changes secondary to radiation such as fibrosis, scarring, contracture, and pain. Adipose-derived stem cells are thought to contribute to the regenerative properties of fat.
