Registries for bronchiectasis in the world: an opportunity for international collaboration.

Until relatively recently, bronchiectasis (not due to cystic fibrosis) was considered an orphan disease, lacking clinical and commercial interest, and was rarely diagnosed. Since the 2000s, several working groups have emerged in Europe and the US - with the first register for bronchiectasis launching in Spain - and these have demonstrated the impact bronchiectasis has on health. Today, bronchiectasis is considered the third most common chronic inflammatory disease of the airways, after COPD and asthma, and represents a significant economic burden.

Persistent Blood Eosinophilia and Eosinopenia: Relationship with Outcomes in Bronchiectasis.

Introduction: Blood eosinophil counts (BEC) have been related to the severity of bronchiectasis and its response to inhaled corticosteroids. However, only the baseline BEC has been used to assess this relationship and it is known that BEC could change over time. The objective of this study is to analyse the association of persistent eosinophilia or eosinopenia with outcomes in bronchiectasis.

The environmental impact of inhalers: a framework for sustainable prescription practices in Spain.

Background: The healthcare sector contributes significantly to global greenhouse emissions, with inhalers being major contributors.

Objective: To develop a framework for reducing the environmental footprint of inhalers in Spain by implementing greener prescription practices.

Methods: A multidisciplinary working group was formed, including hospital pharmacists, pulmonologists, and environmental experts.
