Study Design: Single-center, retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery between 2009 and 2021.

Purpose: To identify preoperative and intraoperative risk factors associated with increased estimated blood loss (EBL), operative time, and length of stay (LOS) in ASD surgery.

Overview Of Literature: Identifying risk factors associated with these outcomes may help improve surgical planning and outcomes in ASD surgery.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with heightened cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, partly due to impaired peripheral vascular function. Symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) and asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) are emerging biomarkers implicated in nitric oxide (NO) regulation and vascular health. Although ADMA is a well-established inhibitor of NO synthesis, recent evidence suggests that SDMA may also play a critical role in vascular health, especially in CKD before end-stage.

Unlabelled: Low-cost particle monitors have been widely evaluated in laboratory and ambient monitoring settings, but we have less knowledge about their performance for long-term indoor and outdoor monitoring in residential settings. We seek to provide practical guidance for using a type of low-cost particle monitors that have become widespread for indoor and outdoor monitoring in community field studies, PurpleAir PA-II monitors. We base our insights on experiences in a community-led residential field study in and around homes of predominantly agricultural workers in California's San Joaquin Valley.

The increasing availability and accuracy of consumer-grade air quality sensors have increased the spatiotemporal scales at which indoor exposure measurements can be conducted. Here, we develop and apply an analytical framework, based on mass balance principles and open-source signal processing tools, to characterize sources and sinks from time-resolved data in an ongoing randomized parallel-group intervention trial of portable air cleaners (PACs) with high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters in homes in metropolitan Chicago, Illinois USA. Low-cost sensors measured fine particulate matter (PM) concentrations and plug load loggers measured PAC operation at high time resolution throughout the year-long evaluation in each home.

Study Design: Single-institution retrospective cohort study.

Objective: To compare patients undergoing ASD surgery with an upper instrumented vertebrae (UIV) in the upper-, mid-, or lower-thoracic spine regarding: 1) preoperative factors, 2) perioperative variables, and 3) and postoperative outcomes.

Background: The classic teaching in adult spinal deformity surgery (ASD) is to avoid stopping a construct in the mid-thoracic spine; however, this theory remains untested.
