Nanoscale materials are attracting a great deal of attention due to their exceptional properties, making them indispensable for many advanced applications. Among these materials, spinel ferrites stand out for their potential applications in electronic, optoelectronic, energy storage and other devices. This is why the development of a synthesis process combined with rigorous optimization of annealing conditions is provided to be an essential approach to control nanoparticle formation and fine-tuning their structural, morphological and functional characteristics.

Background: The protozoan , in addition to infecting phagocytic cells such as macrophages, can also invade non-professional phagocytic cells like fibroblasts, a process previously described in 2D models. In a bidimensional environment, its interaction with the extracellular matrix and manipulation of endocytic processes reveal a complex ability to alter cellular entry mechanisms. However, this process in fibroblasts, especially in three-dimensional (3D) models, remains poorly understood.

Collagen has been widely used for graft production and functionalized with various nanomaterials to impart chemical, physical, and bioactive properties that mimic natural bone characteristics, including the ability to generate of electrical charges. Barium titanate nanoparticles (BTNP) are particularly promising due to their piezoelectric properties. In this study, we evaluated the osteoinducing capacity of BTNP and developed an osteomimetic biocomposite composed of collagen and BTNP.

Background/aims: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), are chronic conditions marked by dysregulated inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. Although the pathophysiology of IBD remains incompletely understood, it involves complex interactions between genetic predisposition and environmental triggers, such as gut microbiota imbalances and immune dysfunction, leading to chronic inflammation and mucosal injury. IBD affects approximately 7 million individuals globally, with prevalence increasing in Europe, North America, and Oceania.
