Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues (GnRHa) on adult height in girls with idiopathic central precocious puberty (CPP), a condition that can hinder growth.
  • The research involved data from 465 girls diagnosed with idiopathic CPP across 55 centers in Spain from 1998 to 2012, assessing their growth and development while undergoing treatment.
  • Findings indicate that GnRHa treatment can help maintain genetic growth potential, with results showing a slight difference between achieved adult height and target height, suggesting some benefit in height preservation.

The assessment of radiological impact to the environment is usually carried out by the dose rate estimation to hypothetical entities named Reference Animals and Plants (RAPs). There are many codes to carry out this assessment, which requires the definition of a scenario and using site-specific transfer parameters when possible. Transfer parameters present a geographical bias, as they are mostly derived from temperate and arctic climate datasets, but there is a scarcity of data for Mediterranean climates.

Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)), an independent, causal cardiovascular risk factor, is a lipoprotein particle that is formed by the interaction of a low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particle and apolipoprotein(a) (apo(a)). Apo(a) first binds to lysine residues of apolipoprotein B-100 (apoB-100) on LDL through the Kringle IV (K) 7 and 8 domains, before a disulfide bond forms between apo(a) and apoB-100 to create Lp(a) (refs. ).

Background: Total lymphoid irradiation (TLI) is a conditioning regimen in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) which may reduce long-term toxicities attributed to other techniques, such as total body irradiation (TBI). At our institution, TLI treatments were first planned with the three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) technique and later with volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). With the recent availability of a basic helical tomotherapy (HT), the possible dosimetric gain of the latter for TLI is studied.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare condition that affects the movement of cilia, leading to mucus buildup and recurrent respiratory infections.
  • This study compared nasal epithelial cells from 35 PCD patients to 35 healthy individuals, measuring various oxidative stress markers and cellular functions.
  • Findings showed that PCD patients had lower levels of harmful reactive species and increased mitochondrial mass, indicating a potential imbalance towards a reductive state in their respiratory cells.
